What Does El Jefe Mean?
Since 2011, the people of Tucson have reported sightings of a Jaguar on the trails of the Santa Rita Mountains.
A local middle school named him El Jefe, Spanish for "the chief" or "the boss." He is easily distinguished by unique markings that can be found in our logo.
He is one of three reported North American jaguars to roam the mountains freely. We named our lounge after this local legend because he is the most famous cat in town.
What is a cat café, anyway?
Tired of bowling, going to the movies and same-ole date nights? Ready for a unique spot to study? An extraordinary yoga experience or meditation class? Maybe even a party like you’ve never seen?
El Jefe Cat Café is the premier Tucson place to play with adoptable cats in an attractive, clean space.
Cuddle cats without the commitment or find the perfect pal to adopt.
Where Do the Cats Come From?
Our resident felines come from rescues here in Arizona. All of our furry friends are in tip top health and ready for adoption, but we’re happy to have you as a visitor, just to play too.
We are not a shelter or rescue, so we cannot take in any cats. Please visit TucsonFeralCat.org for community resources.
A BIG Thank you to Dr. Elsey’s Cat Litter for their generous litter donations - they also are going to give a free box to each person who adopts from El Jefe!
